What is the Eastman School of Music Gig Service?

The Eastman School of Music is known in the Rochester community for providing excellent musicians for local events and occasions. The Office of Careers and Professional Development operates a gig database which posts local employment opportunities submitted to us from the community, from one-time gigs to recurring appointments. It is a significant resource for the community, and a significant source of income for our student population.

How does the Gig Service work?

The Eastman Gig Service functions as a place for clients in the Rochester community to submit their events and have them posted for Eastman student musicians to see. Students can easily search active postings to find gigs that interest them. As the client, you will receive emails whenever a student indicates interest in your event.
Please note: The Eastman Gig Service is a referral service, and not a contracting service. As such, it is the responsibility of the client to post requests that are relevant to their music service needs. The Eastman Gig Service does not recommend specific students. It is the client’s responsibility to correspond with the students who respond to determine which student musician or ensemble is the best fit for the client’s music service needs.

Who are the musicians who use the Gig Service?

All musicians who use our service are current students at the Eastman School of Music. Eastman is one of the top music schools in the world; all of our student musicians are of professional caliber.

How much do students usually charge?

Student and ensembles decide their own fees, which are negotiated between client and musician. Fees depend on length of time and type of services, as well as the number of musicians involved. Please note: our musicians charge standard professional rates.

How will I be contacted if someone expresses interest?

If a student expresses interest in your posting, an e-mail with the student’s contact information will be sent to  the client. The client can then initiate contact once this notice is received.

What if I do not hear from any students?

If you do not hear from students in a reasonable amount of time, please do not hesitate to contact the Gig Service Administrator. We will do our best to help you connect with musicians. However, this is a referral service only and we are not able to guarantee availability.

What kind of instruments do you have available?

The Eastman School of Music specializes in training musicians in classical and jazz genres. On the page where you submit your request, there is a list of instruments and ensembles. If you wish to request a specific instrument or ensemble that is not listed, post your request including the instrument or type of ensemble you are looking for in the title of the post.

For current ESM Students: Why do I need to have a NetID to register for an account?

This service is intended for the exclusive use of current Eastman students. Your NetID serves as confirmation of your status as an active student.

I have an account but I don’t remember my login/password.
