Eastman Wind Ensemble

Eastman Wind Ensemble at Carnegie 2005

“…when playing in an internationally known hall with an audience that worships wind ensemble music, it’s easy to feel special. But that wasn’t it. It was the people sitting all around me on stage and all the people sitting in the audience who helped us over the hurdles we climbed to get there.”

– Anna Reguero (’05)

On February 26, 2005, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, directed by Mark Scatterday (DMA ’89), performed in one of the world’s greatest concert venues — New York’s Carnegie Hall — as part of “A Celebration of the Contemporary Wind Band,” presented by the 2005 CBDNA National Conference. Works by Robert Sierra/Scatterday, David Maslanka, Jeff Tyzik (BM ’73, MM ’77), and Karel Husa were presented in tribute to the memory of EWE founding director Frederick Fennell (BA ’37, MS ’39, HNR ’88). Trombonist Mark Kellogg (BM ’03) also performed, as soloist in the concerto originally written for him by Tyzik.
