IMLLook For Alumni Community Upgrade Soon!

This month, Eastman alumni will receive mailings for the Rochester Alumni Exchange, an exciting new online service found on the Institute For Music Leadership website. In conjunction with the University of Rochester, this upgrade will offer more powerful alumni searches, increased privacy, fewer usernames/passwords to remember, and more ways to be in contact with your classmates and inform them of your activities. This service will replace the old Eastman Alumni Database, which will be phased out this month. Watch your mailbox the week of June 10th for more information!

China Connection‘China Connection’ Promotes Cultural Exchange, New Music Collaborations

Eight members of the Eastman School of Music community traveled to China last month, meeting with their composing and performing counterparts to foster the promotion of new music written on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.

The “China Connection” project is the brainchild of doctoral student Liu Liu, a pianist who has previously accompanied faculty to China for their presentations and performances. For this collaboration, she arranged a 12-day tour of four Chinese conservatories that included concerts of new music written by Eastman and Chinese composers, lectures and master classes given by Eastman faculty, and informal meetings between Eastman and Chinese students... Caleb BurhansAlumnus Awarded Prestigious Leonore Annenberg Fellowship

Eastman School of Music alumnus Caleb Burhans (BM ’03), described by the New York Times as a “man of many talents” whose “name stands out on a roster,” has been awarded a Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Performing and Visual Arts. The prestigious and selective grant recognizes young artists—nominated by institutions invited to submit a candidate, in this case Eastman—whose accomplishments predict a career of national renown... July 24: Join Dean Douglas Lowry for an evening with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Summer Festival. Performance includes the music of Bernstein and Gershwin.

August 1: Join Dean Douglas Lowry and Mark Volpe (BM '79), Managing Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, for an evening with the BSO and Sir James Galway at Tanglewood.
