Beginning March 23, 2020, the Eastman Writing Center will be open and will be moving tutoring sessions online. Our modified hours for the remaining weeks of the semester are:
- Sundays: 10am-1pm
- Mondays: 3-6pm
- Tuesdays: 4-6pm
- Wednesdays: 4-6pm
- Thursdays: 4-6pm

WHAT TO EXPECT
No special software is required. We offer video conferencing through Zoom, the same system the university is using across many courses. Zoom’s technology allows you to share documents or your desktop with the writing consultant while you videoconference, so that you can make changes in real time. Please have any and all materials you would like to discuss during your appointment available. Through Zoom, you can share and discuss your writing, oral presentations, etc. Additional materials for submission could include notes, a draft, an assignment prompt, and comments from the professor, as appropriate. Writing is not read in advance.
For more hands-on instruction, you and your writing consultant may also choose to use Google Docs. Please email the consultant an invitation to edit your document on Google Docs prior to your appointment time, and be online when the appointment begins.
MAKING AN APPOINTMENT
There are two ways to get instruction from the online writing center:
- If you wish to reserve a specific time, you may schedule an appointment through email by contacting Ryan Hardcastle, the Writing Consultant rhardcas@u.rochester.edu
- You may also log on to the Zoom links during our office hours for “on-the-spot” appointments. The chart below lists the Zoom hours.
