ECMS Student Wins Two Piano Competitions


Harvest Zhang, student of Harriet Zimmerman at Eastman Community Music School, has won two piano competitions this fall. The first was the 2006 Thousand Islands International Piano Competition for Young People, a three-day, three round competition divided into two classes. Class 1 is for ages up to 18, and class 2 is for ages 19-25. It was held September 15-17 2006 and sponsored by The Chopin Society of The Thousand Islands. The second was the MTNA Baldwin Competition held during the NYSMTA conference, October 20-22 in Saratoga Springs at Skidmore College. In January 2007 Harvest will compete in the Divisions Competition in Pittsburg PA.

Harvest is 14 and in the 9th grade at Brighton High School. He is not only a gifted musician, but also a straight A student who has earned numerous awards for his academic achievements in math, language arts, and science who is a member of his school’s Math and Academic Challenge teams.
