Tarin Supprakorn

Tarin SupprakornTarin Supprakorn is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studies with Dr. Nelita True. He received a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Literature from Eastman, also studying with Dr. True, and he earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, where he studied with Dr. Thomas Hecht.

Hailed by the Bangkok Post as “one of Thailand’s top young concert pianists,” Tarin began piano studies at age six in his native Thailand. He studied with Dr. Indhuon Srikaranonda for eight years, receiving a full scholarship from the M. L. Puangroy Apaiwongse Scholarship Fund in Bangkok for talented young pianists.

Soon after arriving at Eastman, Tarin won first prize in the school’s annual Piano Concerto Competition and performed Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Of his performance the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle said “Supprakorn delivered lyricism and flamboyance while letting Schumann’s distinctive voice speak for itself.” The Rochester City Newspaper stated, “The arc of his melody lines gracefully ebbed and flowed.”

During his years of study at Eastman, Tarin has served as Dr. True’s teaching assistant, as a class piano teaching assistant, and as an accompanying graduate assistant. He was honored with Eastman’s Excellence in Accompanying Award in both 2013 and 2014. Tarin is also a piano instructor at the Eastman Community Music School.

Tarin has won first prize in most of Thailand’s prestigious piano competitions, including the 6th Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition, the 7th National Studio Piano Competition, the 1st National Piano Concerto Competition organized by Mahidol University, and the 5th Piyabhand Sanitwongse National Piano Competition. He has also won first or second prize and the Best Artistic Award in several international competitions: the 5th and 8th International Chopin Piano Competitions in Asia (Japan), the 7th International Balys Dvarionas Competition for Young Pianists (Lithuania), the 1st ASEAN International Concerto Competition (Indonesia), the 5th International Stasys Vainiunas Piano and Chamber Ensemble Competition (Lithuania), and the 2nd ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition (Malaysia).

In addition to his appearance with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Tarin has appeared as soloist with the Mahidol University Symphony Orchestra, Piyabhand Sanitwongse Foundation Orchestra, International Orchestra of Italy, National Orchestra of Indonesia, Lithuanian Symphonic Orchestra, International Youth Symphony Orchestra of Thailand, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and Bangkok Silpakorn Wind Orchestra. Following his performance with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007, the Pattaya Mail stated: “Precocious talent Tarin Supprakorn took the stage for a veritably electric demonstration of controlled expression and, quite frankly, pure technique. Like a hummingbird’s wings were his fingers as he breathed new life into the great Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.”

An active chamber musician, Tarin has been a member of the Lilac Piano Trio, which played at the gala dinner that preceded a performance by the renowned Renée Fleming to open the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2014 season. He has attended several music camps and festivals, including the Canton International Summer Music Academy (China) and the Musica Mundi International Chamber Music Course and Festival 2006 (Belgium), where he performed with the Henschel String Quartet.
