Kenneth Kam
Kenneth Kam started learning guitar at age eight with his father John Kam. During his young age, he won consecutively at Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in guitar solo as well as ensemble section. Kenneth received his music degree from the Music Department of the Hong Kong Baptist University where he studied under ManBun Au. He completed his M.Mus at the Florida State University where he studied with Professor Bruce Holzman. Kenneth has been a featured artist on the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB). He is also the recipient of the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Guitar Performance.
As an active performer in different aspects, Kenneth has been heard not only in Hong Kong but also in Beijing, Malaysia, Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. In July 2015, he performed the piece “Concertino” written by Jan Bartlema, the Dutch guitarist and composer, together with Jan as soloists and the Hong Kong Guitar Ensemble (HKGE). In August 2015, Kenneth gave his public solo concert in the recital hall, Hong Kong City Hall. In December 2015, Kenneth performed the solo guitar piece, “IGNIS” which was written by Omar Rojas, the Czexican guitarist and composer, dedicating to Kenneth in the studio theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. In July 2016, Kenneth was one of the featured artists in the Altamira Hong Kong International Guitar Symposium and Competition. In May 2017, Kenneth has been awarded the Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music for his outstanding performance.
Kenneth is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music. He studies with Prof. Nicholas Goluses and serves as his teaching assistant teaching both bachelor and masters guitar major students. He also studies early music, the lute and the Baroque guitar with Prof. Paul O’dette.
Aside from performing on stage, Kenneth enjoys teaching and taking part in volunteering. He has recently joined the faculty at the Eastman Community Music School where he teaches students of all ages. He plays for elderlies regularly at St. John’s Home located in Rochester. Kenneth currently resides in Rochester, New York, and he loves photography. He is a member of the Hong Kong Guitar Ensemble and the Eastman School of Music Collegium Musicum.
