Daniel Ziemann

Daniel ZiemannDanny Ziemann is a jazz bassist, educator and composer living in Rochester NY. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he freelances NYS in addition to touring throughout the US and Canada. He has had the privilege of performing with great musicians including Delfeayo Marsalis, Don Menza, Jiggs Whigham, Michael Dease, Dennis Mackrel, Peter Erskine, Derrick Gardner, Gwilym Simcock, Bill Dobbins, George Caldwell, Bruce Johnstone, and currently tours with Gordon Webster & Friends. In Rochester, Danny plays consistently with Bob Sneider, Mike Melito, John Nyerges, Mike Kaupa, Rich Thompson and Vince Ercolamento. He can be seen performing at the Rochester International Jazz Festival and a number of Rochester and Buffalo’s local venues. In 2013, Danny was selected as an alternate in the International Society of Bassists jazz bass competition, an event held every two years with musicians from all over applying to compete.

In addition to performing, Danny is extremely passionate about education and the learning process. This past summer, he taught at the Tritone Jazz Fantasy Camp with a faculty including Darmon Meader, Gene Bertoncini and Mark Ferber, and taught at Buffalo State College’s youth jazz program. Throughout the school year he is the Jazz Bass Instructor at the Eastman Community Music School, on faculty at SUNY Oswego, and a NYS certified music teacher. His student teaching and substitute teaching experiences include working with orchestra, band, jazz ensembles and theory classes. He has been a featured guest artist and clinician at schools around the Northeast and maintains a growing private studio. 

Danny has studied and taken lessons with Jeff Campbell, James VanDemark, Bill Dobbins, Larry Grenadier, Chris Azzara and John Fetter. Danny plays D’Addario products and uses DPA microphones.
