Collin Murtaugh

Collin MurtaughCollin Murtaugh is a saxophonist, composer and music educator born and raised in Rochester, NY. Growing up in Spencerport, NY, Collin started playing saxophone at age nine, as well as taking private piano lessons, which continued for the following 7 years. In high school, Collin worked and performed with various highly-regarded musicians including Eric Marienthal, Tom “Bones” Malone and Randy Brecker, alongside John Viavattine in the Spencerport High School Jazz Ensemble. 

Collin formerly studied at Roberts Wesleyan College in Chili, NY, and earned a B.S. in Music Education, where he studied both classical and jazz Saxophone, classical and jazz piano as well as classical voice. Collin is currently pursuing an M.M. in Jazz Performance at Eastman School of Music, where he teaches Jazz Literature and Styles Analysis for Saxophone, and assists in the Saxology Jazz Group. 

Collin has gained musical training from various educators and musicians from around the Rochester area, including John Viavattine, Benjamin Osborne, Katie Southard, Ann Murphy, Laura Mance, Michael Van Allen, Paul Shewan, Daniel Barta and Adam Potter.
