Demystifying The Recording Process

Saturday, November 7, 2020 @ 4:00 p.m.

This workshop will provide a walkthrough from Start to Finish with everything you need to know to get started recording on your instrument or voice!

For high school students or anyone at ECMS who wants to make a recording, this Zoom event will cover what you need to put your best sound forward! Eastman Technology and Media Specialist Michael Sherman will cover:

  • The gear you need and and how to set it up for your instrument
  • Best recording practices
  • Recording with a backing track
  • How to edit the media in your recordings
  • And how to upload everything to your application website.

Mr. Sherman will walk you through ways to record using FIVE PROCESSES from a $0 investment up to $1000 investment. We’ll also look at the pros and cons of hiring a professional engineer vs. doing it yourself. You’ll leave this webinar with a clear path on how to tackle the recording process for college auditions or virtual performances, and how to edit audio and video quickly and easily.

Musician, producer, and technology coach Michael Sherman has successfully blended the acuity of a media-savvy engineer with the sensitivities of a musician for over a decade. Over the course of that time, and some 4,000 media projects, Michael has worked both in studio and on stage with a tremendously wide spectrum of musicians, from students to GrammyTM winners. His dedication to empowering his community both at home and internationally has brought about training programs like his 21-Day Production Boot Camp as well as production services for classical and jazz musicians through his company, Mobile Audio Productions. Michael serves as an Educational Media Specialist on the professional staff of the Eastman School of Music, from which he holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media (MM’15) and also teaches Video Branding for the 21st Century Musician as an instructional faculty member at Eastman’s Institute for Music Leadership.
