VPWCO is a short-term training ground for students interested in honing their orchestral performance skills.  Through seven rehearsals, string students (violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp) will work on upper-level techniques in ensemble playing, exploring the intricacies of following the conductor and working through string techniques used in executing orchestral literature.

This experience is geared for intermediate to advanced students working at NYSSMA solo levels IV through VI with considerable experience in private lessons.  In addition to working with Eastman students, a workshop in performance anxiety will be offered following one of the rehearsals, and there will be solo opportunities for enrolled students as well.

Orchestral string repertoire will vary from Baroque Concerto Grossi to classical, romantic and alternative styles.  Sample Level Repertoire: Skylife (Balakrishnan), Allegretto (from Beethoven Symphony No. 7, Concerto Grosso w/Piano Obligato (Bloch), Psalm and Fugue (Hovhaness).

Permission required.

Audition Requirements
1) Three octave scale of student’s choice, half note per pitch with vibrato at mm=60
2) Two minutes of a solo of the student’s choice (NYSSMA level 4 -6)
