This is a yearlong course divided into two semesters

This ensemble is open to advanced students who perform at NYSSMA levels 5 and above. Students would normally be expected to play in all 3 major areas of orchestral percussion: snare drum, timpani and keyboard percussion. On occasion students will be accepted who are at an advanced level in only two of the areas. The ensemble repertory will include traditional percussion and world music ensembles, keyboard percussion ensembles, and hand drumming. Attention will be given to refining the techniques on a wide variety of orchestra percussion instruments. The ensemble is always delighted to perform compositions written by ensemble members. Skill in non-jazz improvisation would definitely be a plus. Students should be willing to work independently to prepare their parts so that rehearsal time can be spent on developing the musical aspects of ensemble playing.

Permission of the director is required. Email kpeters@esm.rochester.edu.
