You will probably have names of students who are not in class, as well as students whose names are not on the roster.<strong>\u00a0 The accuracy of your rosters is your responsibility.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>ADDS\/DROPS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><strong>consult the 2024-2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esm.rochester.edu\/registrar\/policy\/01-00\/#1723661551711-593174b4-5607\">Eastman School of Music Academic calendar<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Please note:\u00a0 there are NEVER permission codes given in Class Piano.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>First Day:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>show students the Class Piano Website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esm.rochester.edu\/classpiano\/\">http:\/\/www.esm.rochester.edu\/classpiano\/<\/a><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>especially point out<strong><em> Info for PCL Students <\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>verify from the students the information on the roster (id #, year and major)<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>get additional information from the \u201ccorrect\u201d students:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>cell phone #<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>e-mail addresses<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>their major instrument and their teacher (very important!)<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>inform them how to reach you: e-mail address is recommended<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>tell them you&#8217;ll leave notes\/assignments\/etc.<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>in Announcements on the Blackboard course and under your name on the bulletin board near 443<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>repeat strongly the absence policy (<strong><em><u>no more than 2 unexcused<\/u><\/em><\/strong>)<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>present the syllabus and discuss your expectations regarding class participation and preparation, as well as practice suggestions<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>discuss grades; <strong>be specific<\/strong>, <strong>clear, strict<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>re: Proficiencies\u2014if a student wishes to test out <u>and register for the next level<\/u>, he\/she must proficiency as soon as possible:\u00a0 <strong>show them to the appropriate level on the Class Piano Website.\u00a0 When they are ready, they need to contact me, through email or in person, to schedule the proficiency test.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><u>for PCL 101<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>go over posture, and some preliminary reading\/coordination exercises<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>IMPORTANT: have the students bring in their instruments the second class to perform an informal recital; this helps you gain their trust and for you to see them as musicians<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><u>for PCL 102-104<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>do some exploring: begin with laying down solid technical habits; review scales, hand position and posture, and other considerations appropriate to the level; MUI students have specific material to be covered.\u00a0 Verify what chapters each student covered in PCL 101 (for returning ESM students) and evaluate what new students have covered.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>for PCL 105-106<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>be sure to tell them that attendance is virtually mandatory:\u00a0 <u>only one (1) unexcused absence is allowed for the lab, and only one absence is allowed for the lesson, for a total of two absences altogether<\/u>.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll have to coordinate with the other teacher for the grade in December, so KEEP ACCURATE RECORDS.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>in the lab:\u00a0\u00a0 focus on technique, sight reading and harmonization (MUE students have specific accompaniments).<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>in the lesson:\u00a0 you&#8217;re responsible for reviewing the technique, and assigning the repertoire:\u00a0 in PCL 105:\u00a0 Baroque, Classic, and Romantic; in PCL 106:\u00a0 Impressionistic; 20th and 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>!<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>After each class:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Turn OFF projector<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Remind students to replace headsets on hook (if there is one) or<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>WITH MIC FACING UP on left side of keyboard<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Replace keyboard dustcover<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Move bench to underneath the keyboard<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are a few ideas as you begin this year: Be sure to access your rosters on Blackboard; do this FREQUENTLY!\u00a0 Check the roster against who is \/or is not attending the class.
