Director of Equity and Inclusion – About the Position

The Eastman School of Music is seeking a full-time Director of Equity and Inclusion to promote and foster inclusivity, equity, and belonging in the Eastman community and to develop and lead school-wide initiatives and programs that address our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The Director will work closely with Eastman students, faculty, and staff as well as the University’s Office of Equity and Inclusion on initiatives that include but are not limited to enrollment, education, service resources, and community outreach.  The Director may teach one or two academic courses that enrich Eastman’s curricular offerings around diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

We are working to create an institutional culture that sets clear expectations, holds everyone responsible for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and provides appropriate support for all members of our community. The Director will help lead systemic change, create more diverse curricular and co-curricular experiences, embrace a diverse student body, and foster a more equitable and inclusive environment.  In addition, the Director will represent Eastman in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts within the University of Rochester and with external partnerships.  In particular, the Director will collaborate with the University of Rochester’s Office of Equity and Inclusion to align Eastman’s student activities and plans with a university-wide DEI strategic plan.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of five years’ experience working in higher education, and at least five years of relevant management and subject matter experience in the diversity, equity, and inclusion field.
