Honors to Professor John Beck
A Final Eastman Faculty Recital by Professor John Beck will be given May 4 at 3pm in the Eastman Theatre. Come celebrate the 40 years of John Beck’s tenure as Eastman Percussion Professor and his additional 8 years of service to the school as director of the Eastman Percussion Ensemble and teacher in the Eastman Community Music School. Professor Beck is well recognized by Rochester audiences through his long and highly recognized career as Timpanist for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Professor Beck often appears behind the drum set at various events in Rochester with his John Beck Quartet. Professor Beck has been internationally recognized through his service as a judge in a variety of international percussion competitions and presentation of workshops and recitals, in addition to having served as a director of the Percussive Arts Society, the largest professional percussion group in the world.
Eastman percussion alumni from all of the US are joining John to celebrate his extraordinary teaching career. We are expecting the largest number of Eastman Percussion alums ever assembled for the event! Eastman School of Music and University of Rochester faculty, staff and students are invited to a reception in Cominsky Promenade in Professor Beck’s honor, following the 3pm recital.
Voice and Opera Department Welcomes Brian Zeger for a Master Class
Brian Zeger will visit Eastman as the guest judge for the 2008 Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition, to be held May 10, 2008 in Kilbourn Hall. Please join us on the afternoon of May 9 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm in Annex 804 for a master class with Mr. Zeger, and a great opportunity for our singers and their collaborative pianists! Brian Zeger has built an important career not only as a pianist, but also as a chamber musician, radio broadcaster, artistic administrator, and educator. In a career spanning more than two decades, he has enjoyed collaborations with many of the world’s top musical artists: violinist Itzhak Perlman, flutist James Galway, and singers Marilyn Horne, Frederica von Stade, Samuel Ramey, and Bryn Terfel, among many others. In addition to his distinguished concert career, Brian Zeger is Artistic Director of the Vocal Arts Department at The Juilliard School, and director of the vocal program at the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival.
