Robert Rosevear was born on July 9, 1915. He received an A.B.
in history from Cornell University in 1937, followed by a B.M. in
n public school music from Eastman School of Music in 1939. While
at Eastman School he studied horn with the legendary Arcady
Yegudkin. He pursued graduate study at Indiana University and
received the Docotor of Music honoris causa from the University
of Western Ontario. Rosevear spent the bulk of his career as
professor of music education at the University of Tornonto, in
conection with which he was involved in a wide variety of
national music education programs. In addition to his teaching
career, he played the horn professionally and semi-professionally
in a wide variety of ensembles.
This collection is a portion of the private library of Robert Rosevear. The entire library was donated to Sibley Music Library in 1996. Most of the collection was merged with the regular circulating collection.
The collection represents in large part the material used by Rosevear during the course of his years of study prior to and at Eastman School of Music. As such, it provides a good documentation of the pedagogical material and solo repertoire typical of instruction in the horn at a major music school in the United States during the mid-twentieth century.
There are no restrictions.
The collection consists entirely of published music and is subdivided into two sub-series, each arranged in roughly alphabetical order.
Subseries A: Solo repertoire
This consists of music for recital and performance. It includes
several binders collections compiled by Rosevear as well as some
single works.
Subseries B: Pedagogical material
This consists of pedagogical works including, etudes, excerpt
books, and methods.
Subseries A: Solo repertoire
