Biography: Lucile Johnson Rosenbloom (1898?-1992) was the first instructor in harp at the Eastman School of Music. She played in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the NBC Symphony under Toscanini, and with the Pittsburgh Symphony under Fritz Reiner. In Pittsburgh she met and married Charles Rosenbloom. She was one of the foremost harpists of the twentieth century and widely influential as a teacher and performer.

Provenance: The collection was acquired in part through gifts of items from Lucile Rosenbloom and in part through individual purchases by Sibley Library with funds provided through a gift from her before her death.

Scope and Content: The collection constitutes an outstanding collection of rare harp music, both printed and manuscript. The bulk of the material dates from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Associations: The Watanabe Special Collections also possesses many works for harp in its cataloged rare holdings as well as in the Nan Gullo and Neejer Collections.
