Biography: Walter Hassler was born Walter Lehman in 1880 in Dresden, Germany and studied piano in the Royal Conservatory there, graduating in 1907. In 1923 he immigrated to the United States where he achieved a reputation as a concert artist and maintained a private studio.
Provenance: The scrapbook was donated to Sibley Library by David Mulberry of the University of Cincinnati in 1971.
Scope and Content: The scrapbook was compiled by Hassler and documents his career as performing artist and teacher from approximately 1910-1950.
Associations: Watanabe Special Collections also possesses the collection of Malcolm Frager, a notable American pianist of the latter twentieth century.
