Competition Format

Twenty-four competitors will be admitted by audition CD. The format of the competition will include two preliminary rounds, a performance in a master class, and a final round. All twenty-four competitors will perform in both preliminary rounds and a master class. Six competitors will be selected for the final round. All performances in every stage of the competition must be from memory.
Upon admission to the competition, detailed information regarding deadlines for submission of repertory and supporting materials will be provided to the competitors.

Preliminary Rounds I and II:
Two Solo Recital Programs (25-30 minutes each)
The repertory for the first and second preliminary rounds must include:
- A complete classical sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi, or Schubert
- A romantic work written during the 19th century
- A work written during the 20th or 21st centuries
This repertory may be ordered and distributed between the first and second rounds at the discretion of each contestant. The combined repertory will consist of 50-60 minutes of solo music, divided into two programs of 25-30 minutes each. Additional works may be added to complete the minimum time requirement.

Master Class Performance:
All contestants must perform in a master class, which will be presented by members of the piano faculty of the Eastman School of Music, or by members of the international jury. The master class performance will be adjudicated separately from the rest of the competition. A special prize will be awarded for the best performance in a master class. The required repertory for the master class is a solo work (or movement of a work) of the contestant’s choice, less than 12 minutes in length. This work must not be performed in the preliminary rounds.

Finals:
Six finalists will be selected to perform one movement of a work for piano and orchestra in the final round, with second-piano accompaniment (provided by the Eastman School of Music).
