Jon Johnson

Jon Johnson, a native of Roanoke,Virginia, is currently pursuing the DMA in organ performance and Sacred Music, studying with David Higgs at The Eastman School of Music. Jon holds the MM degree from Eastman, and the BM cum laude in organ performance from East Carolina University, where he studied with Janette Fishell. As a Freshman, Mr. Johnson won first prize in the Young Performers Competition at the American Guild of Organists Regional convention, and studied at the Oundle International Organ Festival in England. While at Oundle, Jon won several honors, including the opportunity to return to England, making his debut at Canterbury and Southwark Cathedrals. In 1998 Mr. Johnson won first prize in the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Organ Competition, and he was also featured in a recital at the 1998 National American Guild of Organists Convention, Denver, Colorado.

Mr. Johnson has performed for several AGO Chapters and Concert Series across the United States, recently making his Pacific coast debut at All Soul’s Episcopal Church, San Diego, California. In addition to being a full-time student, Jon serves as organist and assistant director of music at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Rochester, New York.
