Ryan Enright

Ryan Enright Canadian organist Ryan Enright is a first year Doctor of Musical Arts student at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester where he studies with William Porter. He received first prize in the Concours d'Orgue de Québec (2004) and the RCCO National Organ Playing Competition (Edmonton, 2007). He is passionate about organ improvisation, which he studied under Julian Wachner and, most importantly, William Porter. He received second prize in the 2003 Concours d'Impro of the Festival Orgue et Couleurs and has pursued master classes on the subject with Gerre Hancock, Theo Brandmuller, Thierry Escaich and William Porter. He has attended keyboard academies in Haarlem (the Netherlands), Smarano (Italy), Rimouski and Montreal and was awarded a trip to France to visit its outstanding instruments and organists. In recital, he played the opening concert of the Festival Amis de l'Orgue de Québec in 2005, and performed at the Basilique Cap-de-la-Madeleine (2007), the Cathédrale de l'Immaculée Conception in Edmunston, NB and well as recitals in and around Montreal.

Ryan began organ studies at age fourteen in his hometown of Montreal with Marc-André Doran, then Gaston Arel and Jean LeBuis at the Conservatoire de Musique de Québec en Montréal. From McGill University he received the Bachelor and Master degrees in organ performance under John Grew and the Artist Diploma under William Porter. He has served as organist of Wesley United Church (1997-2002), Presbyterian College (2004-5), assistant organist of Christ Church Cathedral (2002-2005) and Director of Music at St. Philip's Church, Montreal West (2005-2007). He is currently Music Ministry Intern at Downtown United Presbyterian Church and plays continuo for the Collegium Musicum, directed by Paul O'Dette, and for Baroque chamber music ensembles.
