Daniel Aune

Dan Aune Daniel P. Aune, a native of Underwood, Minnesota, started studying piano with his grandfather at the age of seven, and began organ lessons at fifteen with Peter Nygaard, instructor of organ at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. After graduating from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, he entered Concordia College, where he continued his organ study with Mr. Nygaard, studied choral conducting with René Clausen, and sang in The Concordia Choir. In 1999, he was accepted with scholarship to the Eastman School of Music, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree with high honors in 2001. In 2004 he completed Master of Music degrees in Organ Performance with David Higgs and Harpsichord Performance with William Porter. He also earned the Sacred Music Diploma. His improvisation studies with Prof. Porter led to the publication of one his creations in the first Eastman Organbook.

Mr. Aune is working towards the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the studio of David Higgs. In 2007 he won first prize in the John R. Rodland Memorial Scholarship competition. He has also won first prize in the Elftman Organ Competition in San Marino, California, second prize in the Arthur Poister National Organ Competition in Syracuse, New York, and finalist standing in the Fort Wayne National Organ Competition in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is Director of Music and Organist at two historic churches in downtown Rochester, St. Mary's Church and St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church.
