, 2002 first-prize winner of the National Young Artists Competition in Organ Playing (sponsored by The American Guild of Organists), is a native of Frost, Minnesota who currently resides in Rochester, NY.
Mr. Olsen began his study of the organ at the age of 13 with Sandra Krumholz, of Fairmont, MN, going on to further study with Peter Nygaard at Concordia College in Moorhead MN, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1997. Before graduating, he was honored to be chosen to perform as solo organist with the Concordia College Orchestra.
Timothy Olsen is currently a doctoral student of David Higgs at The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, where he received a Master of Music degree in 2000. From 1999-2002, he was Professor Higgs teaching assistant, and now serves on the faculty of the Eastman Community Education Division as well as being a teaching assistant in the Eastman theory department.
Prior to winning the AGO competition in Philadelphia this past July, Mr. Olsen was chosen to compete in the North American Selection Round of the Calgary International Organ Competition in May, 2002. He was also a finalist in the Arthur Poister Competition in 1998 and 2001 in Syracuse; the John Rodland Memorial Scholarship Competition in New Jersey in 1999, and a semi-finalist in the 2000 North German Public Radio International Organ Competition.
As part of the NYACOP first prize, Timothy Olsen will record a CD for the Naxos label.
