The Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative and the Film/Music Cluster of the University of Rochester present
Organ and Film Festival
October 23-26, 2014
The 2014 EROI Festival delves into the fascinating world of convergent media with a four-day event devoted to the art of organ accompaniment to silent film. This special event features iconic silent films of the early 1900s with live accompaniment by renowned performers on a variety of instruments. Presentations and panel discussions will explore film studies, film music collections, music cognition and improvisation, the history and performance practice of silent film orchestras and organists, organ and organists on film, and Eastman’s storied history as an educator of a generation of “photoplay” organists. Participants will have the opportunity to tour and hear demonstrations of important organs associated with the golden age of silent film. Join us in Rochester for an exciting weekend filled with great instruments, great performers, and great films!
