Dieterich Buxtehude and the Mean-Tone Organ, Volume 1
Hans Davidsson

The large organ that Buxtehude played in St. Mary's Church, Lübeck, had fifty-four stops on three manuals and pedal. We do not know exactly how it was tuned during Buxtehude's time, but recent research suggests it may have been in mean tone, a tuning in which the tonal excursions that Buxtehude included in some of his praeludia would have been difficult to play. Hans Davidsson's bold undertaking of the recording of Buxtehude's entire organ repertoire in mean tone gives us startling new insights into how his organ music might have sounded in the seventeenth century.

Buxtehude Complete Organ Works, volume 2: The Bach Perspective
Hans Davidsson

Drawn by reports of the acclaimed organist of the Mariankirche in Lübeck, Dieterich Buxtehude, the 20-year old J. S. Bach traveled almost 300 miles to hear Buxtehude's music first hand. On the second in our three-volume set of the complete organ works of Buxtehude, Hans Davidsson plays the ground-breaking repertoire that was known to Bach and his circle, and which may have influenced his musical compositions and performance.

Complete Organ Works of Matthias Weckman (3 CDs)
Hans Davidsson

The North German Baroque organ in Örgryte nya kyrka in Gothenburg, Sweden provides exciting new perspectives on Matthias Weckman's organ music. This recording offers the first opportunity in our time to hear the complete works at their original pitch and in the original temperament, in quarter-comma meantone temperament at a Chorton pitch of a=465 Hz, and with the original registrations documented in the Weckman manuscripts. New aspects of registration and tonal realization became apparent through the process of working with this music on the new Baroque organ in Örgryte, and they are documented in the liner notes, which specify all the registrations for each work. Several of the chorale works are presented according to the alternatim practice, with a selection of hymn verses sung by the vocal ensemble Schola Gothia, directed by Ulrike Heider, interwoven with the organ verses.
