Partnership with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra
The Eastman School of Music and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra are continuing their partnership to provide a professional development opportunity for area music teachers. The purpose of the program is to bring music teachers into the performance environment of the Eastman School of Music ensembles and the RPO, offering a chance to hear excellent models of musical performance and to make connections between performance, listening, and learning.
The National Standards for music teaching and learning, and the New York State Frameworks for music include listening and performing as major elements of music programs; the intent of the Gibbs Street Connection program is to assist teachers with their own skills in these areas so that they can be more effective in designing related experiences for their students.
All concerts are scheduled either in Eastman Theatre or in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs Street, Rochester, NY. Free parking is available in the East End Garage, with entrances on East Main Street and Scio Street.

Program Description and Schedule
The program is designed as a series of 9 concert events, with concurrent educational experiences provided in the form of pre-concert lectures and recommended materials for teaching. The schedule printed on the reverse side identifies the specific concerts selected for the 2007-2008 program. The public school schedules were considered in making concert choices, so we have avoided Winter Break and Spring Break offerings. In selecting Eastman events, we looked for concerts that would provide variety to the overall package. Since most Eastman concerts are free, we encourage you to attend the numerous events not listed in the Gibbs Street Connection, and to bring your students to these programs.

Participation Policies
To be included in the program, you must select and attend at least four (4) concerts, two (2) of which must be Eastman events. You may select more than four concerts, up to a maximum of six (6) concerts. One or two tickets may be ordered for each concert (see Registration procedures for information on ordering tickets). We encourage you to bring a student with this second ticket.
Our participation policy requires you to attend pre-concert talks or presentations for each concert you select. Tickets to the concerts will be distributed ONLY at the beginning of the pre-concert session, and the tickets will NOT be available after that session.
Your involvement is documented through attendance records and your written evaluation at the close of each event. The area Teacher Center network has been informed of this program, and you should check personally with your own Teacher Center to determine the quantity of lectures and concerts you must attend in order to earn any professional development credits.
Verification for individual concert attendance, if required by your district, will be signed ONLY at the end of a concert, not before or at intermission. The minimum number of hours for each event is three (3) clock hours. At the end of the entire Gibbs Street Concert season, we will provide a letter verifying your total number of participation hours.
There is currently no limit on the number of years you may participate in this program. We do, however, have to limit participation to those teachers who are still currently teaching; retired teachers are no longer eligible.

Registration Procedures
The costs for participation in this year’s program include a charge for the RPO tickets. Your own total cost is determined by the concert choices you make. First, everyone pays a general administrative fee of $10, used to defray costs of the mailings and the copying of program materials.
Second, the tickets for the RPO concerts are charged at $5 per ticket; if you request a second ticket for the RPO concerts, that second ticket is also $5. To determine your own total, you would count the total number of RPO tickets you’ve ordered and calculate $5 for each ticket; then add the $10 administrative fee.
Please make check or money order payable to the Eastman School of Music. Credit cards cannot be accepted. Confirmation letters will be sent upon receipt of your payment, verifying your concert choices and reserving your space in the program.
