Guitarist/composer/educator Bob Sneider teaches jazz guitar at the Eastman School of Music where he performs a multi-faceted role as instructor of jazz guitar in both the Collegiate and Community Education Divisions. In addition, Sneider also teaches jazz theory & improvisation at the University of Rochesters River Campus and co-teaches guitar/recorder methods through the Eastman music education department. Before joining the Eastman faculty in 1997, Bob won Down Beat's 1989 "Outstanding Performance in High School Jazz" award, an award he duplicated at the collegiate level in 1993. Following graduation Sneider played with two-time Grammy Award-winner Chuck Mangione for four years (1994-1997). In 1994, he also toured with cornetist Nat Adderley and saxophonist Don Menza. Later that year, Bob and his brother John Sneider (trumpet) toured briefly with a group that featured saxophone phenom Chris Potter. Other notable jazz artists with whom Sneider has performed include: Lou Donaldson, Stanley Turrentine, Nick Brignola, Houston Person, Etta Jones, Nnenna Freelon, Gene Ludwig, Gerry Niewood, Ralph Lalama, Roy McCurdy, Freddie Cole, Jon Faddis, Keeter Betts, and frequent appearances with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Pops. Sneider released his first CD, Introducing Bob Sneider to critical acclaim, and a new project is in the works for a late 2000 release. Bob can also be heard on John Sneider's debut recording, Panorama, on Doubletime Jazz. Sneider is a graduate of the University of Rochester (B.A. 93) where he studied with Ramon Ricker and Bill Dobbins. Growing up in Brockton, MA, Sneider's mentor and teacher was Chet Kruley, a veteran of the Fletcher Henderson, Jimmie Lunceford, and Nat Pierce bands. As a guest clinician/artist Sneider has performed with high school and college jazz ensembles. In the summers he teaches at the Birch Creek Music Festival, the Eastman Summer High School Jazz StudiesAmp, and the Tri-Tone Jazz Fantasy Camp (adults).
