California Summer Music

The Performance Program is designed to create a rich musical experience in solo and chamber music for sixty-five string players and pianists from the US and the rest of the world, ranging in age from teenagers to young adults. There is ample time for individual practice, lessons and ensemble coachings, encouraging growth both technically and musically. Each participant is assigned to a compatible chamber music group that fosters team building skills across cultures and creates a deeper understanding of chamber music. Each musician is expected to learn his or her individual part in advance. Master classes, which are open to the public, offer the opportunity to observe the approach that an experienced musician takes to great musical literature and features student performers. The Performance Program gives equal emphasis to solo repertoire and chamber music. Participants in the Performance Program also have the rare and unique opportunity to work in collaboration with the Composition Program participants to premier their new works.

All of these activities culminate in three solo concerts and a weekend-long chamber music festival that is a showcase for the participants and open to the public. High quality audio and video recordings are made of all concerts.
