Upcoming Events, Deadlines and Suggested Activities
The ALP home page will always provide you with the latest ALP news, deadlines and events of note. Download and print out the calendar to keep track of all the important dates. Please be sure to mark your calendars for the ALP Intern Fair which will be held this year on Wednesday, March 4, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (required attendance for those of you planning to do local internships next year). Watch for announcement of an ALP Picnic sometime in May. ALP alumni—while some of this information is specific to current students, there are topics relevant to you. I’ve heard from many of you that you like to hear from the program, so here you go! Spring is definitely a busy time in ALP!
ALP Advising – Sign up Now
Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about next semester and pre-registration for ALP courses. Please schedule an advising session now. Sessions will be held March 16-26, 2009. Sign up sheets are located at the reception desk in the IML Suite, Miller Center First Floor (open M-F, 9 am - 4 pm). You must attend an advising session to pre-register for any ALP courses.
Please review ***in advance*** all forms, course lists, and instructions located on the ALP Advising page.
(For those of you graduating this semester, not returning for any reason or who have already received your certificate, an advising session is not required. However, you may wish to sign up to talk to me about any questions you might have about special opportunity grants or summer/post grad internships.)
Sign up early—spaces fill quickly.
Local Internships for 2009-2010
Just a reminder that the process for those of you planning to do local internships in 2009-2010 has begun. What you need to do and important dates can be found on the ALP Local Internships page. The Intern Fair is March 4, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in Messinger Hall 1. New local internships for 2009-2010 include the IML Center for Music Innovation, George Eastman House, Gregory Kunde Chorale and Voices. If you know of any sophomores who might be interested in applying to the ALP program next year, encourage them to join us and have them RSVP to Leslie. (A couple of you have already done that – thanks!)
Summer & Post Graduate Internships
Students or alumni who are considering summer or post graduate internships should already be researching potential opportunities. There are some ideas to get you started as well as links to internship search websites and housing sites on the ALP Potential Internships pages. Are you an ALP alum working at an organization that would like to host an ALP intern? See our “Host an ALP Intern” page for forms and directions.
Applications for summer internships will be due April 17, 2009
In recent years, many of you have been interested in post graduate internships. Because this process is becoming increasingly competitive, we are also suggesting that applications for post graduate internships also be submitted no later than April 17, 2009.

Eastman Hosts Workshop on Entrepreneurship in Musical Higher Education
On January 22-24, the Eastman School of Music hosted the leaders of nearly 50 higher education music schools for a workshop on incorporating entrepreneurship into their curriculums. The event, spearheaded by the Institute for Music Leadership, built on a workshop led by Eastman at the 2007 National Association of Schools of Music annual conference, where participants were asked to come up with and then implement an entrepreneurial idea at their institutions.
