Housing

On & Off-Campus

Eastman's Student Living Center and Cominsky Tower provides a practical and convenient residence for our students. A small number of rooms are reserved for graduate students. However, most graduate students find apartments close to the School; rental housing is abundant and rents are reasonable.

For more information on the Eastman Student Living Center contact Linda Muise (Assistant Dean for Residential Life) or Kathy Goodman (Administrative Assistant) in the Office of Residential Life, (585) 274-1251.

The Office of Residential Life maintains a website with off-campus housing listings: http://www.esm.rochester.edu/doso/housing.php. The Residential Life Office on the River Campus also maintains a listing of off-campus housing at http://ochousing.reslife.rochester.edu/.

Craigslist is an excellent resource for finding apartments in Rochester: http://rochester.craigslist.org

Transportation

Students, living within walking distance of the school, have found that a car is not a necessity, especially considering the options below.

Parking

East End Garage is a parking garage located at 475 East Main Street, right around the corner from Eastman. Student rates are $65 for the first month ($40 per month parking fee plus $25 refundable deposit for a hands free pass), and $40 per month thereafter. In order to get the student discount you will have to provide proof of registration. For more information, call the East End Garage at (585) 325-7860.

Zip Cars

Get 24/7 access to Zipcars parked right on campus. Students, faculty and staff can join Zipcar for only $35/year. No deposit. No monthly commitment. Simply reserve the car online, let yourself in with your Zipcard and drive. Our low hourly rate of $7 includes gas, insurance, 180 miles per day, and reserved parking. You only need to be 18+ to join. For more information or to sign up visit http://www.esm.rochester.edu/studentlife/zipcar/.

University Shuttles

The bus shuttle between Eastman and the River Campus (the Red Line) is a regularly scheduled bus route and is free to all students with University of Rochester IDs. The Green Line Shuttles vary daily and go to Marketplace Mall, Pittsford Plaza, Public Market, Brooks Landing, Wal-Mart, Wegmans, Target, and Regal Henrietta. For Red Line and Green Line bus routes and schedules see http://www.rochester.edu/parking/shuttle.htm.

City Bus Service

Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) buses service the city and greater Rochester area. For example, Bus Line 1/1X travels down Park Avenue and stops very near the school (at East Avenue and Gibbs Street). This is convenient for students who wish to live in the popular Park Avenue neighborhood. For more information on routes, schedules and fares go to www.rgrta.org.
