The Department of Technology and Media Production automatically records all degree recitals, major Eastman concerts, faculty recitals, and selected guest artist performances and provides recording services for audition/demonstration recordings when possible. Events can be filmed on request. Other events can be recorded on request and may be chargeable. Recording facilities include three control rooms with audio and video links to Eastman Theatre, Kilbourn Hall, Schmitt Recital Hall, Howard Hanson Hall, ESM Room 120, Annex 804, and Annex 902. (Please note that recording services are not provided for performances in Ciminelli Lounge.) Additional services include sound reinforcement, audio editing, compact disc duplication, video production, and AV presentational and classroom support. See www.esm.rochester.edu/esmtmp for further information.
Students may also make use of two self-service recording facilities: Ciminelli Formal Lounge in the Student Living Center and Howard Hanson Hall in the Eastman Main Building are equipped with compact disc recorders. The Concert Office provides access to Howard Hanson Hall. Students must supply their own recording media (blank CD-Rs).
Request for Recording & Duplication by Recording Services
Forms are available from T&MP and from the T&MP website at http://www.esm.rochester.edu/esmtmp. All requests for recording services, including recording sessions, live sound reinforcement (microphones, etc.) should be directed to Sue White at x4-1130 or via e-mail at: swhite@esm.rochester.edu. Requests should be submitted at least three weeks in advance of the event; requests submitted later than this may not be guaranteed due to availability of resources. Duplication requests for concerts for the current academic year should be submitted to the T&MP Department. Concerts and recitals from previous years are located in the Eastman Audio Archive. Requests for duplications from the Eastman Audio Archive require the T&MP staff to transfer the original recordings to a digital format to create CDs, and so due to time constraints it is only possible to process these requests during the summer vacation.
Request for Copies of Records, Tapes or CDs of Eastman Faculty
All recorded degree recitals, ensemble concerts, faculty recitals and guest artist performances are archived within the Eastman Audio Archives, a collection of over 32,000 recordings dating from 1933. This collection constitutes the oldest continuous collection of recordings made at any music school in the United States. Copies of recordings from the current academic year are available for listening purposes at the Sibley Music Library. Older archived recordings may be made available for listening purposes. The purpose for the request must be directly related to academic course work. These types of requests will take approximately one month to complete. Compact disc copies of recitals and ensemble performances may be ordered. Please contact the department for additional details.
