During the month of February, department chairs meet with faculty, and then with the Executive Associate Dean, to discuss the year’s activities and to engage in future planning for the department. In preparation for these meetings, department chairs gather written Faculty Activity Reports from all full-time members of their department. Faculty Activity Reports are generally due near the end of January. You should use your Faculty Activity Report as an opportunity not only to discuss your recent accomplishments and those of your students, but also to contribute to the long-range direction of your department. Your report should list accomplishments of the previous year (performances, papers delivered or published, student accomplishments, etc.) as well as courses taught and university service performed. It is also helpful if you give your upcoming away dates for concert engagements or other trips; projected timetables for leaves of absence, promotion, or tenure; an update on research in progress, ideas for new course or new departmental acquisitions; or other ideas for your (and your department’s) future development. Gathering data about the faculty’s future plans at this point in the academic year and budget cycle helps in school wide planning – not only for salary increases, but also for capital expenditures and projected course staffing. Faculty are encouraged to view this annual process as an opportunity to share both your activities and your ideas with your chairs and the administration. You will receive notification from the Executive Associate Dean when it is time to prepare your report
