Educational Technology
Technology for teaching and learning is rapidly becoming an important part of Eastman academic life. This section will grow to include further information about campus resources and online Blackboard courses.
Computer Labs
The Technology and Media Production Department maintains 2 computer labs across our city campus. Each space is geared toward providing the Eastman community the computing resources needed to enable, and enhance their professional lives.
Eastman Media Lab (SLC 103)
Located on the 1st floor in the towering residence hall at 100 Gibbs St., the Eastman Media Lab is the main computing space on campus. Equipped with 28 desktops furnished with cushioned seats and wireless internet access; available 24-hrs a day, the Media Lab was built mindful of the modern music student and is our main computing space.
Internet Café
In the bowels of the Main Building, bathed in multi-hued spots, drenched in Wi-Fi and surrounded by a dozen Apple eMac's, inhibitions are put aside and absconded geek views are the order of the day. Catch up on the news, watch HomeStar Runner, laugh with your mouth wide open (no food on the keyboard please), the Internet Café is your place to relax, grab a bite and stay connected.
The labs are exclusively for the Eastman community and unauthorized access is prohibited.
Online Course Management
Blackboard
Blackboard is the online course management system recently purchased by the University of Rochester. It is the replacement for Web CT. Being "the most widely adopted course management system among U.S. postsecondary institutions", it certainly has some advantages. Are you wondering if you should use Blackboard? Do you already use Blackboard, but are seeking greater proficiency? You've come to the right place. Flex your wrists, stretch your fingers and open your mind; class is about to begin!
