University IT has launched myIdentity, a new self-service website to manage the passwords for your University computer accounts. Eastman students are now being provided with an Active Directory account in addition to a NetID. The Active Directory account is being provided to students for access to the following services:
- Access to a new wireless network, UR_Connected, that will allow you to authenticate your laptop, smart phone, or other wireless device just once. These devices will automatically connect to the University network in the future and will not require you to login as you move around campus. For directions on how to connect to the new wireless network, UR_Connected, please visit http://www.esm.rochester.edu/esmtmp/ecs/wifi.php.
- Access to public computers in the libraries and IT Center on the River Campus now require you to login in order to gain Internet access. The new login requirements are part of an effort to further protect information and will help preserve availability of computers for the University community. The public will still be able to use public computers. However, access to resources and web sites will be significantly limited. Those who wish to can apply for a visitor ID by filling out an online application and bringing a photo ID to the IT Center in Rush Rhees Library or the circulation desks in the Rush Rhees and Carlson libraries. The visitor pass will be valid for 72 hours. Public computers within Eastman will begin using a similar procedure starting in June 2011.
- Eastman student employees will begin using their own computer account when using departmental computers.
The myIdentity website will allow you to manage the passwords for your NetID and Active Directory accounts. To activate the myIdentity service, go to https://myIdentity.rochester.edu and enter your NetID and password. After signing in, follow the steps to create a strong password and two security questions and answers. Passwords require:
- at least 8 characters with a minimum of 4 unique characters
- at least 3 types of the following types of characters: lowercase letter, uppercase letter, number, punctuation
- the following character cannot be used: @
- the password cannot contain your name or username
If your current NetID password meets the above requirements, you can use that as the new password.
Upon completing the myIdentity activation, your NetID and Active Directory passwords will be set to the password you created during the activation process. The username of your Active Directory account will be the same as your current NetID username. Please note that if you currently access your @u.rochester.edu email on a mobile device or from an email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail, you will need to resync your new password with Gmail at https://gauth.its.rochester.edu/samltool/sync_pass.jsp.
To change your passwords in the future, please visit https://myidentity.rochester.edu, enter your username and password, and click the ‘Change Password’ link on the Identity Self Service page.
If you experience problems activating the myIdentity service, please contact Eastman Computing Services at 274-1160, ecshelp@esm.rochester.edu, or by visiting our office in ESM 35 off the Internet Cafe between 8am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.
