University IT has launched myIdentity, a new self-service website to manage the passwords for your University computer accounts. This website will allow you to manage the passwords for your Active Directory account (used for logging in to ESM computers and email – see the note [***] at the bottom of this message for additional new uses of this account) and for your NetID (used for services such as HRMS, VPN, & Blackboard). The two accounts can also be synchronized so that the password is the same for both accounts, by following both steps below. Additionally, passwords can now be reset from a web browser from off campus, without the need to connect to VPN first.
- Activate your myIdentity Account (necessary)
Go to https://myidentity.rochester.edu and enter your NetID and password. If your current password does not meet the password requirements, you will be directed to create a new password that meets the following requirements:- at least 8 characters with a minimum of 4 unique characters
- at least 3 types of the following types of characters: lowercase letter, uppercase letter, number, punctuation
- the following character cannot be used: @
- the password cannot contain your name or username
Upon completing the myIdentity activation, your NetID password will be reset to the new password you created during the activation process.
Click the ‘Forgotten Password Information’ link and follow the instructions to setup your Forgotten Password questions. This is a key step in the Identity Management self-service process. If you forget your password, you can answer these security questions to easily reset your password. Choose questions that can’t be easily guessed or discovered through the Internet. If someone can guess the answers to your security questions, they will be able to reset your passwords and gain access to your accounts.
- Synchronize Passwords (optional)
If you would like to synchronize the password on your Active Directory account, click the ‘Change Password’ link on the Identity Self Service page (if you no longer have that page open, you can go to https://myidentity.rochester.edu and enter your NetID username and password). Enter your current password in step 2 and then again twice in step 4. Please keep in mind that updating your Active Directory password will require you to update the password in any mobile devices or software applications (such as Microsoft Entourage on the Mac) where you have the password stored for automatically checking email.
*** River Campus public computers will require a login beginning today. Your Active Directory account can be used to login to public computers on the River Campus. Eastman will begin requiring logins on public computers in June 2011. Your Active Directory account can also be used for the new UR wireless network, UR_Connected. The new UR wireless network will allow you to authenticate your laptop, smartphone, or other wireless device just once. These devices will automatically connect to the University network in the future and will not require you to login as you move around campus. For directions on how to connect to the new wireless network, please visit http://www.esm.rochester.edu/esmtmp/ecs/wifi.php.
Please contact Eastman Computing Services @ 274-1160 or ecshelp@esm.rochester.edu if you need assistance with your myIdentity activation.
