The Eastman Marimba Ensemble has been a regular musical organization of the Eastman School of Music since 1959. John H. Beck has conducted the ensemble since the beginning. It performs one concert during the academic year. Its library contains marimba ensemble music spanning the entire history of the existence of the marimba ensemble in America, from the 1920's to the present. Not all the percussion students at the School perform in it, as it is a voluntary ensemble. The size of the ensemble will vary from three players to twelve players depending on the requirements for each composition. Because the professional caliber of its performances is extremely high, many composers send newly composed compositions for the Ensemble to perform.
