The MM Audition Requirement
All applicants to MM degree programs are required to prepare an audition program that demonstrates, through advanced repertory, their highest technical and musical achievements. The choice of repertory is left up to the applicant, within the guidelines listed below. Audition repertory for majors in piano accompanying and chamber music may be found on the Supplemental Application for Majors in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music (see Admissions website). Unless specifically indicated, memorization of the audition program is required if it is typical for repertory for that instrument to be performed from memory. Applicants should prepare complete movements or works.
Violin, viola, violoncello, and double bass applicants who are applying to the Orchestral Studies Diploma in addition to the master of music degree program should consult the Supplemental Application for OSD for specific orchestral audition repertory. This audition takes place before a committee of musicians from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and is scheduled on the day following the Eastman audition. More information on the Orchestral Studies Diploma.
Tuition scholarships to graduate students come in the form of graduate awards. Some awards require additional auditions or interviews: these are scheduled on the same day as the audition/interview for the major. More information on graduate awards may be found in the section on Financial Aid, as well as on the Graduate Award Application, which can be found under applications when applications are available (fall).
