MA - Application Requirements
All applicants to majors within the master of arts degree program must provide the following:
- GRE General Test scores: Test results of up to fives years old will be accepted.
- Research papers: One music history or music theory research paper demonstrating advanced analytic, scholarly, and writing abilities must be submitted by applicants to majors in composition and music education. Two research papers must be submitted by applicants to the MA program in music theory pedagogy and to the MA/PhD programs in musicology and theory.
- Personal statement: Include information about training, goals, accomplishments, etc.
These items must be submitted with the application, by the application deadline. In addition, there may be specific application requirements for each major, as detailed below.
- Interview requirement: All applicants to the MA degree program are required to interview in Rochester for admission to the program (pending outcome of prescreening, if applicable). Interviews may take place on specifically designated dates per major, or on regularly scheduled audition dates. Because the MA is a research degree, applicants are not scheduled for auditions. Arrangements for secondary applied study may be made at the beginning of the semester of enrollment for those interested.
Other information on the application and admission process may be found in the application section.
