Sundays in Kilbourn Hall

Since March 1922, when the members of the Kilbourn Quartet walked on stage to dedicate the recital hall at the recently opened Eastman School of Music, string quartets have thrilled and delighted Rochester audiences.

Sunday, April 11, 2010 Kilbourn Hall • 3 PM Peter Serkin, piano, with the Orion String QuartetDaniel Phillips, violin
Our final Eastman-Ranlet concert features an extraordinary
collaboration and a rich, varied program. Ever since its
members–each a soloist in his own right–joined in
1987 for their first quartet performance, the Orion Quartet
has been recognized as one of this country’s foremost
chamber ensembles. Peter Serkin is in a class of his own
among today’s pianists. Known for championing a wide
range of contemporary music, he’s just as passionate
about performing classic repertoire. This performance of
the Brahms Quintet will be one not to miss! “He is one of the supreme musicians of our time.” —New York Memorial Art Galleryazine (on Peter Serkin) “All of them phrased together—and, it seemed, breathed together. The Orion Quartet is a configuration of particular sensitivity and bravado.”— The New York Times |
