Marimba Journey (percussion ensemble)

Ruth Cahn, Director
Saturdays 3:30-5:30 p.m. 9/20, 10/4, 10/18, 11/15, 12/6, 12/13This ensemble is open to intermediate to advanced adult students. Students may be performers on marimba only or have an expertise in all 3 major areas of percussion playing: snare drum, timpani and keyboards. Repertory is selected based on the talents and musical interests of the group. This might mean that a marimba player might have to perform on hand drums or that someone with mainly snare drum skills might have to learn a simple keyboard part. Flexibility of outlook and a sense of musical adventure is important to be part of this journey! Interest in experimenting with improvisation is a plus. Students should be willing to work independently to prepare their parts so that rehearsal time can be spent on developing musicianship and ensemble skills. Permission of the director is required. Contact the director at 585.274-1419 or rcahn@esm.rochester.edu The group usually does two concerts per year: one during December and sometimes another demonstration“Tiny Tots Concert” for the early childhood classes.
