Course Description
Students will be able to explore and develop a variety of ideas and techniques of how to play with different claves and styles of Latin music such as: Son Montuno, Cha-Cha, Samba, Mambo, etc. Tunes in the style of Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Irakere, etc will be listen and analyzed.
Course Objective
Upon successfully completing this course the student will be able to deal with different styles of Latin Music.
Required Text
None. The instructor distributes appropriate course materials.
Homework, projects, out of class preparation
In addition to concerts, regular homework and other assignments will be required. In order to maintain satisfactory standing in this class, approximately four to six hours per week of out of class preparation is recommended.

Final Grade Determination
Your final grade will be determined by considering the following components at indicated weights
Attendance and class participation 10%
Assignments (homework) 15%
Concerts 75%
Attendance Policy
Students are expected to attend all classes and are held responsible for any work missed because of absence. Two unexcused absences constitute the lowering of a student’s final course grade by one full letter. If an absence is necessary, the teacher should be notified as far in advance as possible.
Course Withdrawal: Any request to withdraw from classes or lessons must be made in writing to the Eastman Community Music School Office. Verbal request will not be honored. See the ECMS handbook for more information
