EASTMAN YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLE

Bill Tiberio, director

This course will be presented this year in three 6-week sessions, each culminating in a performance.  Students may sign up for one, two, or all three sessions dependent upon their availability.  Commitment for the whole season is welcome and encouraged!

This ensemble is for the serious high school performer who is playing at a NYSSMA 5 or 6 solo level.  Good sight reading skills are helpful to successful participation as well.

The Chamber Winds have typically performed a great deal of the best traditional wind ensemble pieces, as well as contemporary works.  The instrumentation is a standard concert band complement, and there are usually only one or two players per part.  This intimate setting affords wonderful opportunities to work on ensemble tuning, balance, and blend.  Our rehearsal setting, A 902, is an acoustically favorable venue for an ensemble of 20 to 40 musicians.

An eventual goal of the ensemble is to create a wind group which meets in short segments of the school year which would rival the experience of participating in an all-county or area all-state band.  Students from all over the area have contributed to the success of this unique ensemble, which is entering its 6th year.  Many alumni are currently music students at conservatories and universities around the country.  Others are simply fine musicians who enjoy performing and want to supplement their school band experiences with this commitment.

Conductor Bill Tiberio is entering his 25th year of teaching.  He is a conductor of the Concert Band, Sophomore Band, and Jazz Program at Fairport High School, and also conducts the University of Rochester Wind Symphony and University of Rochester Jazz Ensemble.  Feel free to contact Bill with questions about this ensemble by e-mail:  btiberio@frontiernet.net, or cell phone:  (585) 880-9821.  Often, an audition can be waived by virtue of a student's experience level or private teacher recommendations.
