Class Piano Placement Audition Information for 2008
Auditions for Class Piano will be held this week:
Thursday, August 28, 2008
2-4:30 PM; rooms 320, 404, 410, 443
Results will be emailed to students before the weekend and posted on

Students who have already registered on-line, will need to add piano-class once they have their placement test results.
This audition consists of an interview for placement in the proper section of class piano.
Freshmen and transfer students should prepare two solos—one Baroque, and one of any other style.
Solos should be chosen from the standard teaching repertoire.
Please note: pieces do NOT have to be memorized.
Students with NO prior training in piano will be automatically placed in PCL 101: major technical focus: all white key major scales and corresponding arpeggios, 2 octaves, hands together
Students with some prior training in piano will probably be placed in PCL 102: major technical focus: all white key minor scales (all 3 forms) and corresponding arpeggios, 2 octaves, hands together; review all white key major scales
Students with 1-2 years of study will probably be placed in PCL 103. major technical focus: all black key major scales, and corresponding arpeggios 2 octaves, hands together; review all white key major and minor scales and arpeggios
Students with 2 or more years of study will probably be placed in PCL 104. major technical focus: all black key minor scales (all 3 forms) and corresponding arpeggios, 2 octaves, hands together; review all black key major scales and arpeggios
Students with 3 or more years of study will probably be placed in PCL 105 (NOTE: PCL 106 is not more advanced than 105)
PCL 105 major focus: all major and minor scales and arpeggios up to 3#s, 3bs, 4 octaves, HT; 3 pieces from Baroque, Classic, Romantic
PCL 106 major focus: all major and minor scales and arpeggios completed, 4 octaves, HT; 3 pieces from Impressionistic and 20th and 21st Centuries
Students with 4 or more years of study—or are at a level above PCL 106—will most likely be exempted from class piano requirements.
