ADMISSIONS DATES TO KNOW

Special deadline for fall 2010 orchestral conducting applications

Deadline for fall 2010 application for admission.  It is possible to start some graduate programs as early as summer 2010*.

March 15 - April 15
Admission decision notifications mailed

April 15; May 1
Response deadline: Admitted graduate students must notify the school of their decision to accept or decline the offer of admission by April 15.  Admitted undergraduate students must notify the school of their decision to accept or decline the offer of admission by May 1.

*Summer enrollment is open to graduate students only.  Master's level music education majors, or students who have the express permission of the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, may enroll for summers-only degree study.  Newly enrolled graduate students who are scheduled to begin study in September may take placement tests and begin degree study in June.  International students and those needing remedial coursework are particularly encouraged to consider summer study and may be required to do so as a condition of their matriculation.

September enrollment is open to all applicants in all degree programs.  In the event that there are no openings in a given degree program, major, or instrumental area of study, due notification is given in the application.

AUDITION DAYS 2010

OPTION I – Audition at Eastman

Applicants must be available from 9am - 6pm each audition day; all graduate applicants who have applied to the piano performance major must be available from 9am - 10pm on both the Friday and Saturday.  Applicants should only make travel plans upon confirmation of an assigned audition date. Applicants should check audition dates both by instrument and by major.

OPTION II – Audition at a Regional Audition Center

A member of the admissions staff will host each regional audition in the United States in January.  Early applications may be booked for auditions in Beijing (China), held in October.  There are no faculty members at regional sites, although all recordings made at regional auditions are evaluated by the faculty. You may only choose one audition site for Option II.  All auditions are performed unaccompanied with the exception of vocal auditions.  Voice applicants must provide their own accompanist at regional audition centers.

OPTION III – Audition by Self-Prepared Recording

Depending on the degree, major, and/or instrument, an audition by self-prepared recording may be possible.  All recordings must be sent directly to the Admissions Office; do not send audition recordings to faculty.  Self-prepared audition recordings are reviewed by the same faculty who hear live auditions.

The Eastman School of Music will be holding auditions in Asia in October 2009 in the following locations:

Applicants who wish to audition in Beijing or Shanghai should email the Admissions Office for details. A completed electronic application (available after September 1) is required for a live audition in Beijing or Shanghai.

Candidates wishing to audition in the cities listed above must make an appointment through the local contact, and must subsequently complete a full Eastman application.  All auditions heard using this option will become part of a candidate's file and may be used instead of, or in addition to, audition Option I or III.  Please note that a separate application must be completed for Eastman by December 1 for this audition in Asia to be evaluated by the faculty.  All composition, jazz, and DMA applicants must audition in Rochester for admission to Eastman.

RECRUITMENT AND COLLEGE FAIR DATES FALL 2009

The Eastman School of Music, in conjunction with Ithaca College and The Juilliard School, will host a National Music College Fair on November 4th from 5:30 - 7:30pm. Prospective students, families and teachers looking for information on undergraduate and graduate music programs in colleges and universities across the country, and pre-college music and arts programs are invited to attend.

A representative from the Eastman School of Music will be present at the 2009 NACAC Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs throughout the United States in October and November.
